From: Hanover, PA....yes I LOVE, Utz potato chips, I used to get them still warm from the factory.
Family: A thoughtful husband and two sweet sons (22 and 20) who are roommates in Boone, NC. One just graduated from Appalachian State University and the other is still in college. Oh, and I have Willie the Wildcat to keep me company while working. We both like to take short breaks to watch the birds and squirrels in our yard.
Places lived: Hanover, PA; Manhattan, KS; White Sands National Monument, NM; Twentynine Palms, CA; Mount Rainer, WA; back to Twentynine Palms to marry my sweetheart; and then Calypso, NC (home for the last 21 years)
College: Kansas State University, BS in Wildlife Biology. Yes, I did work on Konza Prairie and did get to help with bison roundup!
Hobbies: I love to travel (and plan trips) any chance I get. I like birding, hiking, and long leisurely days at the beach and in the waves. I love roller coasters, zoos, and science museums (most any museum really). My newest exciting activity is riding my Suzuki VanVan 200 motorcycle with my husband, preferably on dirt and gravel roads.
A bit more about me: After I graduated from K-State in 1995, I was fortunate to get several seasonal gigs as a Biological Technician with the National Park Service. It was incredible to be able to work in some of the most beautiful places in our country. I fell in love with the West!
A late night hike during a full moon in the dunes of White Sands National Monument....incredible. Camping for days on the side of Mount Rainier to restore alpine meadows by planting native plants....incredible. Meeting the love of my life at Joshua Tree National Park....incredible. Oh, and the desert and mountain there a pretty great too!
In 2001, Mike was offered a job at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. So across country we went and rolled into town pulling Mike's 1967 VW Beetle the day before our firstborn turned one. We bought a small house with a big yard in the country where I was home for many years with our boys and faithful dog. We homeschooled for several years and took as many great field trips as we could take. Our regular activities during those years were 4-H and the local children's theater. Fun times, which I miss.
While raising the boys, I worked various jobs. I waited tables, bartended, and managed a dining room. I was a substitute innkeeper and helped with parties and events. I work as a courier at our local library and then worked full-time as a book cataloger.
Then one day Rusty (our families have been friends for years) asked if I'd be interested in joining him at My Medigap Consultant. How could I resist learning about and then talking about Medicare all day?! Seriously, I truly do enjoy talking with and helping people navigate the Medicare maze. Heck, the folks I get to chat with have interesting lives and stories. I get a kick out of finding commonalities with people. Rusty was right when he thought it would be a good fit for me. At the end of the workday, I feel pretty darn satisfied having helped people get all the bits and pieces of Medicare in place, the way they want and that will work well for them. Oh, and it sure doesn't hurt to work with Rusty and Celena. They are the best!
